Upcoming Events
We hope to welcome you at one of our upcoming symposia.
New dates will be announced here.
Second SCB Workshop
This workshop took place in June 2025 and was focused on hands-on training for low-coverage whole genome sequencing (WGS) and interpretation of human mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). Participants, with zero scientific background, followed the full sequencing workflow. This event gave participants valuable lab experience and a full view of the sequencing process using current technology.
First SCB Symposium
Our first symposium took place in February 2024. It focused on researchers who presented their work on the case of “Theo the Pipe Smoker” - a skeleton found in Basel outside the cemetery walls. They explained each step, from DNA extraction and sequencing to data analysis and genealogy. The scientists estimated he died about 150 years ago and identified living relatives in Switzerland.
